Mental Health Benefits of Haircuts

We can recall weekend afternoons when we would sit in our barbershops, listening to many stories that other clients are sharing, laughing at, debating, and experiencing. Having our hair cut is not just a haircut, but a social get together. We recall going to barbershops to watch basketball games and not even getting a haircut, and we have our own experiences with barbershops, beauty parlors, and salons.  Healthtrends report that many people love pampering and grooming and wonder why barbershops and salons give us a sense of freedom and calmness. Initial questions are answered in a study done on the relationship between haircuts and mental health.

Socialization and Haircuts

Two researchers conducted a study that included 202 participants, of which 58 were men and 144 were women. The survey included questions like people talking to their hairdresser/barber about their issues, problems, and even people going to the hairdresser/barbershop to pass the time. All of the questions were answered with a scale from strongly agree to strongly disagree. The researchers found out that black men talked and socialized more significantly than any other group, and black men are likely to go to their hairstylists for different reasons than just getting a haircut, unlike white men. On the other hand, women talked and socialized as much as each other regardless of race.
